Lafayette, LA – At 4:34 this morning, Lafayette firefighters were called out to a house fire in the 1100 block of Carmel Drive. As firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from one of the three vacant homes on the property. The exterior of the dwelling was on fire. Firefighter extinguished the fire within ten minutes. The home sustained minor fire damage. While on scene, firefighters inspected another unsecured home and discovered a small fire inside as well. That fire was quickly extinguished.
Fire investigators determined both fires were intentionally set. The rental properties had been vacant for approximately two weeks.
