UPDATE: Fire originated in the kitchen on top of stove. The occupant turned the burners on to heat the house this morning. A plastic container on one of the burners ignited catching other items nearby on fire.
The kitchen sustained heavy fire damage. The other parts of the home was heavily smoke damaged. The fire was ruled an accident.
Lafayette firefighters are on the scene of a house fire in the 300 block of Bellot Street. The fire is out. An elderly lady was home with her dog when the fire started. LCG employees working across the street noticed the smoke and the elderly lady at the front door. They ran across the street and assisted her out the house along with her dog. No injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
