Lafayette, LA –Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Ike B Street around 4:49 a.m. this morning. The owner of the dwelling called 911 reporting her home was filled with smoke. Approximately 25 firefighters responded to the scene. When firefighters arrived, the back of the single family dwelling was fully engulfed in flames. The occupant of the home was safely outside at a neighbor’s house. After almost fifteen minutes of suppression activities, the fire was brought under control. The home sustained heavy fire damage.
The owner of the dwelling was inside her bedroom when she began to hear the smoke alarm beeping. She walked to the rear of the home and noticed heavy smoke coming from another bedroom. She quickly contacted 911 and exited the dwelling. No injuries were reported.
American Red Cross was contacted to offer assistance as she lost mostly everything in the early morning fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
