Lafayette firefighters and the hazmat team responded to a gas leak at the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and South Orange Street at 2:06 this afternoon.

Lafayette firefighters and the hazmat team responded to a gas leak at the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and South Orange Street at 2:06 this afternoon. LUS was doing repair work on a water line and accidentally hit a gas line cause a leak in 2” main. Our hazmat team are on scene monitoring the leak while Atmos officials work to repair the line.

Lafayette Police blocked traffic on Louisiana Avenue at the intersections of South Magnoila and South Sterling Street. Drivers are encouraged to find an alternate route. Crews expect repair work to take 2 hours.
