(KADN)- The Kaplan City Council this week followed the recommendation of Mayor Mike Kloesel and agreed to terminate fire Chief Jacob Mathiew. Kloesel cited a number of reasons at the Monday meeting for firing the fire chief .

Among the top issue was Mathiew removing a gps tracking device from his fire department pickup as well as long-running issues with the fire chief's temper. A few council members also remarked at the meeting that they had gotten complains about Mathiew's anger-management issues. The mayor says the decision to call for Mathiew's firing wasn't an easy one.

"We do have, we are blessed to have the fire department that we have, and look, I'll be the first to tell you that Chief Mathiew is a good fireman; he's a good friend. That's not what we're here for though."

Mathiew's most recent post on Facebook indicates that he's looking for work.
