Jefferson Street Closed for Pedestrians on Friday and Saturday Nights

Only pedestrians and cyclists will be allowed on Jefferson Street from Vermilion to Cypress streets between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

LAFAYETTE, La. - Beginning Friday, September 3, the Lafayette Police Department will divert vehicular traffic away from Jefferson Street at Vermilion and Cypress streets to facilitate a pedestrian- and cyclist-only experience and to help reduce traffic congestion that occurs on Downtown Lafayette’s major restaurant and retail corridor.

This closure will take place between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., and cross streets (Vermilion, Congress, Garfield, and Cypress streets) will remain open to through traffic.

Public parking is available elsewhere throughout the district at metered spots; in the Vermilion Garage (which contains 500+ parking spots); and in public parking lots at the corner of Cypress and Jefferson, the corner of Garfield and Jefferson, near the corner of Vermilion and Jefferson, in the lots adjacent to the Buchanan Garage, and behind City Court.
