BATON ROUGE, La. – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending July 31, 2021 rose to 3,228 from the week ending July 24, 2021 total of 3,122.
For a comparison, during the week ending August 1, 2020, 13,402 initial claims were filed. The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 4,100 from the previous week’s average of 4,349. The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending July 31, 2021 increased to 47,230 from the week ending July 24, 2021 total of 44,996. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 327,467 for the week ending August 1, 2020. The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 47,375 from the previous week’s average of 48,061.
