IBERIA PARISH, LA – Iberia Medical Center and like many other hospitals around the country are looking for more nurses as they continue to go through this fourth surge of Covid-19.
“When covid began it just magnified the shortage. It actually made the shortage much worse.” Melissa Richardson Said.
Iberia medical employee. Corey Ainsworth adds that the need is bigger now more than ever.
Experienced nurses at Iberia Medical Center are having to work more than they were pre-pandemic due to the massive shortage
“It’s definitely a calling. Sometimes we have good days. Sometimes we have bad days but every day we try to do our best and we try to show up and take care of the patients in our community.” Kristyn Tressel Said.
Healthcare workers are hoping to have more than a dozen new nurses as soon as possible.
“We are fortunate to have phenomenal leadership here and phenomenal administration and that really helps provide the support. I think our nurses would really benefit from having some additional people come in and people who have the same compassion for our patients and people who have the same care and desire.” Melissa Richardson Said.
Now Richardson says they are calling on those colleges and universities to provide more options for young students who are looking to join the nursing career.
