Lafayette, La. - On Oct. 31 at approximately 9:09 p.m., Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Meadowlark Loop.
As firefighters arrived at the dwelling, heavy smoke was coming from the interior of the home. Crews entered the dwelling and discovered the kitchen and laundry room engulfed in flames. The fire was brought under control within fifteen minutes. The home sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.
The initial 911 call was reported by the owner of the dwelling. When firefighters arrived on scene, the owner was outside in a safe location. The owner told firefighters the fire was in the kitchen.
No injuries were sustained. There were two dogs in the house; one died.
The fire is under investigation.
