LAFAYETTE LA -- Governor John bel Edwards made his way to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette vaccination site today as part of the university’s shoot for $100.

University of Louisiana is one of many universities around the state that is taking part in the “Shot for $100 Campaign.” Governor John Bel Edwards says this is a great start to get students motivated to roll up their sleeves.

“There is no region more impacted in the state of Louisiana today by covid than right here in the Lafayette area.” Governor John Bel Edwards Said.

As students get ready to crowd the campus this fall semester; Governor Edwards and other officials are seeing the need to get as many people vaccinated as soon as possible.

“If we are supposed to have this normal experience on our college campuses, if we want to reduce transmission in the age group, we need to focus on this group. Especially when you have folks coming from all over the state and all over the country.” Governor John Bel Edwards Said.

The first 75,000 college students to get their covid-19 vaccine at participating institutions will receive a $100 dollar visa gift card.

“This really encouraged me to get it because I wanted to do my part and I could really use $100 for my books and fees.”

The overwhelming participation from students makes healthcare workers in the region excited for the future.

“We know that we are all at risk, the Delta variant is different. Let’s get vaccinated, wear these masks until the vaccines can essentially have time to do its job in protecting you.” Dr. Tina Stefanski Said.

LDH is reportedly working with the Louisiana board of regents to communicate to colleges and universities that this new reward program is available to them.
