Fire Damages Aquarium Central on Johnston Street

At 11:36 p.m. Lafayette Fire Department responded to Aquarium Central, Tropical Fish & Exotics, in the 4400 block of Johnston Street to a commercial fire.

Lafayette, LA – At 11:36 p.m. Lafayette Fire Department responded to Aquarium Central, Tropical Fish & Exotics, in the 4400 block of Johnston Street to a commercial fire. Smoke was coming from the building as firefighters arrived on scene. Emergency crews gain entry into the business and discovered the interior filled with smoke and on fire. A large wooden cabinet filed with aquariums was engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within ten minutes. The business sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.
Once the fire was out, firefighters assisted the owner with removing as many animals as possible. Unfortunately, there were numerous aquatic animals, particularly fish, which did not survive.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
