Family of Clyde R.Kerr III Issued a Statement to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office
Dear LPSO Family,
First and foremost, we want to give glory to GOD as He is present in all things. We also want to say thank you to the LPSO family, the St. Genevieve community, the city of Lafayette, our hometown of New Orleans, and the St. Augustine Purple Knights. We truly mourn the loss of a great man together.Deputy Kerr was first and foremost a GOD-fearing man. He was of very strong faith. His faith, along with his family and close friends, were the most important things to him. He loved to serve, and his life was a testament to that. He was extremely proud of his service to this great nation and his community. The children at St. Genevieve always brought a smile to his face, and he would speak of them as well as the faculty very fondly. His work as a School Resource Officer in the St. Genevieve community reinvigorated him. We pray that the children will remember him warmly and grow up in strong faith while serving their communities. To KATC, we want to sincerely thank you for showing Deputy Kerr and his family the respect we were due in your reporting. It is unfortunate that someone we all loved, adored, and cherished had their darkest moment shared online. We have reached out to a few publications and social media accounts, asking them to remove their posts to no avail. A list of publications and accounts that are still promoting this content, including some we have been unable to contact, will be shared below. The shock, pain, and grief that we as a family feel after losing one of our own is indescribable. The media has taken it upon themselves to add insult to injury by creating a narrative leveraging his last posts for clickbait. Losing a loved one is a spiritual journey. Deuteronomy 34:8 says, The Israelites wept 30 days after losing Moses. They wept because someone who led, loved and served them had passed. It’s insulting to our family, close friends, and most importantly, Deputy Kerr’s legacy to have strangers using his passing to push a nefarious agenda that goes entirely against what he stood for.
Our request and prayer is that out of decency and respect that certain publications and accounts remove all posts regarding Deputy Kerr. We are also explicitly asking for Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to completely delete his last posts and disable his accounts. His family is already grieving enough, and we would rather mourn privately. In closing, we sincerely want to express gratitude to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office for being family to Deputy Kerr and their continued support. We could not have gotten through this tragedy without your help .If anyone is experiencing any depression or thoughts of harming themselves, please seek help immediately. You are loved and adored by someone.
Sincerely,The Kerr Family
