SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A former Louisiana community college comptroller has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty in what prosecutors say was years of fraud. Carol Bates also was ordered to repay nearly $287,000 to Bossier Parish Community College. She pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. A news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Shreveport says Bates was sentenced Monday. Her sister, Audrey Williams, and two other women also have pleaded guilty. Prosecutors said the sisters recruited nine students and former students to get refunds to which they were not entitled, and got half and two-thirds of each payment.
