LAFAYETTE, LA – Gallery R will display Eric Martin’s “Pop-COVID” collection for the Downtown Second Saturday ArtWalk on Saturday, July 10 from 6-9 p.m. at 116 E. Congress Street.
The “Pop-COVID” collection is inspired by Patrick Nagel portraits with a twist of modern-day Pop Art surrounding the COVID-19 emergency. In this collection, Martin combines COVID safety measures and various popular culture media selections in an attempt to create a series that serves as a unique social commentary on the topic of COVID-19.
Martin explains, “COVID-19 is my plague, Patrick Nagel’s art style is my Renaissance, and the women are topless, but they are practicing the appropriate CDC guidelines regarding masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer.”
Eric Martin is an artist and high school teacher from Lafayette. Aside from painting and teaching, Martin is a published self-help author and a member of The Whiskey Bay Rovers, Lafayette’s premier pirate band.
Lafayette’s Second Saturday ArtWalk is a monthly event that invites the public to explore the Downtown Lafayette Cultural District as art galleries display works by local and regional artists. The event features galleries, museums, restaurants, and shops offering live music, food, drink, and art for purchase.
