Lafayette, LA-DREAMS Foundation of Acadiana hosts support group for moms of special needs children/adults and are recruiting new members to join in-person or virtually. Meetings are held on the third Friday of every month and the next meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 19 at 6:30p.m. at the new DREAMS meeting location on 3366 Verot School Road Suite 104 next to Jammin’ Java in Lafayette. Everyone is required to wear a mask and sit six feet apart.
The support group is open to moms of special needs children/adults and want to connect with other moms to discuss topics that impact daily living related to caring for a loved one with simple to complex medical conditions, such as epilepsy, autism, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, down syndrome and more.
“The moms support group is a great avenue for complete strangers to connect over a common bond: raising a child, sibling or loved one who has special needs,” stated DREAMS Volunteer Paula Duhon Bernard. “We welcome all moms to attend our next meeting. RSVP’s are recommended but not required.”
“The response to the moms support group has been overwhelming and we are so fortunate to provide this free service to the community,” stated D.R.E.A.M.S. Executive Director Donielle Watkins. “We will even offer a virtual option via Zoom for those moms who are not able to attend in person. The Zoom code is 896 590 06500.”
