LAFAYETTE, La. - Covid-19 booster shots of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are set to become available for all U.S. adults beginning next month but why are they necessary.
Dr. Larry Simon says, "Personally mentally I'm prepared for that I'm mentally prepared to have to get my covid shot every year if that's what it comes to".

Some experts have expressed concern that calling for boosters would raise more doubts in the minds of people who are on the fence about the shots' effectiveness.

So why is a booster shot necessary? Dr. Larry Simon says "So even though your body's trained to fight it the immune system because it isn't primed and on the ready it's in kind of a reserve status it isn't able to respond quickly enough to prevent that positive test to prevent those symptoms and that's where the booster shot comes into play"

The booster shot has many wondering if there fully vaccinated will this be a yearly routine. He says "But a lot of it just going to depend on how our immune systems behave and we'll only get there through scientific research like the studies that are being done the real heroes that work at the CDC NIH world health organization Louisiana department of health and places like that"

Despite healthcare professionals plea for everyone to get vaccinated now Isabella Alvarez says she wants to wait at least a year, "I feel like taking your time on getting the vaccine is best because at the end of the day you really don't know how your body's going to react to it because there's a lot of side effects that come with the covid vaccine"
