Better Business Bureau Serving Acadiana is proud to announce Mixed Martial Arts professional competitor and Lafayette native Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier as the winner of its 2020 Community Hero Award.

This award, sponsored by Lafayette Roofing & General Contractors, LLC, recognizes an individual who has made substantial and noble efforts, often sacrificing of oneself, for the benefit of others and/or the Acadiana community. Poirier discussed his award with the Acadiana BBB while training for an upcoming bout. A video honoring Dustin and his accomplishments can be viewed at https://youtu.be/tB7dT9bMCO0 or https://tinyurl.com/communityheroaward.

Poirier, recent interim UFC Lightweight champion, is currently ranked second in the division and uses his platform to do great things through his Youngsville-based foundation “The Good Fight Group.”

Through his foundation, Poirier has supported many organizations in Acadiana, including The Acadiana Outreach Center, Acadian Middle School, built a playground for children at Prairieville Elementary as well as completed international charity work.

His organization has purchased a year worth of car seats for families in need at a local Lafayette hospital, provided meals to frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and helped families after recent hurricanes and donated supplies.

The Community Hero Award Winner announcement kicks off the start of the Better Business Bureau 28th Annual Awards and Online Auction. The Online Auction runs from October 26th-November 13th at http:/www.tinyurl.com/bbbacadiana.
