Hammond, La (KADN) - According to the New York Times Louisiana vaccination rates are up 400% in recent weeks as the Delta Variant surges. Gov. John Bel Edwards tried everything to get the state vaccinated including a $1 million dollar giveaway.

Demand for the shot has quadrupled in recent weeks as doctors and nurses have seen an alarming number of 20 and 30 year olds declining and dying from the virus.

Even childrens hospital ICU's are packed with COVID-19 patients.

Louisiana is a hot spot with the highest per capita rate of cases in the country. The state is averaging more than 4,000 new cases per day, according to New York Times data

Healthcare and business leaders from across Louisiana have spoken out in support of Gov. John Bel Edwards" mask mandate, which will help limit suffering and death as the state experiences its worst surge yet.
