According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On August 20, 2020, a local business contacted the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office in reference to a firearm application denial. The local business provided a Firearms Transaction Record (FTR) showing John Dale Pastorick attempted to purchase a Taurus .410 / .45 caliber revolver.”

Upon further investigation of John Pastorick’s past criminal history, it was determined that he was charged with attempted second degree murder in May, 2017. This case is scheduled to go to trial in November, 2020.

Additionally, it was determined that John Pastorick provided false information on a question on the Firearms Transactions Record, which states “Are you under indictment or information in any court for a felony or any other crime for which the
judge could imprison you for more than one year?” John Pastorick indicated “No” as his answer.

On October 26, 2020, John Dale Pastorick was booked at the St. Landry Parish Jail for Fraudulent Firearm and Ammunition Purchase.

“Federal firearm deals and private sellers have a mandatory obligation by law to report denials to the sheriff of the parish. This law was created to prevent a person from illegally obtaining a firearm when they are not allowed to acquire one,” advised Sheriff Guidroz.

On behalf of Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, this is Deputy Chief Eddie Thibodeaux. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
