UPDATE: While investigating a complaint, deputies discovered an individual believed to have outstanding arrest warrants, as the deputies attempted to confirm the identity of this person, he fled on foot.
Deputies pursued him to a residence where he entered and was later discovered to be hiding in the attic. As the deputies began to enter the attic opening, the suspect fire shots at the deputies.
The deputy then cleared the attic area, where a perimeter was set up. Deputies working with family members were able to convince the suspect to surrender without further incident after a 2 hour standoff.
The suspect was transported to the Acadia Parish Jail and booked on the following charges:
Branch, LA 70516
5 - FTA bench warrants, felony
6 - att 1st degree murder of peace officer
1 - resisting by giving false identity
1 - resisting by flight
1 - Convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office tells News15 deputies are trying to negotiate with an armed man barricaded in a house on Highway 35 near Cotton Gin Road in the community of Branch. Sheriff KP Gibson says deputies know who the man is , but the Sheriff's Office isn't releasing that information at this time. We will provide more details once they become available.
