UPDATE: Additional Suspect Arrested for Homicide on Kibbie Street

UPDATE (11/17/2020 at 4:45PM)- On November 3, 2020 at approximately 3:30 p.m. officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to the 400 block of Kibbe Street in reference to shots being fired in the area. The responding officers located a 16-year-old male subject who had been shot. The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of 27-year-old Ryheem Veney of Abbeville for the charges of First-Degree Murder and Attempted First-Degree Murder. Detectives were also able to secure warrants for 23-year-old Javontae Veney of Abbeville. The warrants were also for First Degree Murder and Attempted First-Degree Murder.

Detectives received information that Javontae Veney was at a residence in Jennings, LA. Detectives, along with officers of the Jennings Police Department, began surveillance at a residence that they believed Javontae Veney was hiding at. A search warrant for the residence was granted and served at the residence by members of the Abbeville Police Department and the Jennings Police Department. Officers were able to locate Javontae Veney inside the residence and took him into custody without incident.

Javontae Veney was transported to the Jennings Police Department, then to the Abbeville Police Department, where he was booked on the two warrants. Javontae Veney was transported to the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center for holding.

The homicide investigation is ongoing.


Update (11/4/2020 at 4:17PM)- The Abbeville Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating two additional suspects for the homicide which occurred in Abbeville on November 3, 2020.

Abbeville Police Department detectives have obtained arrest warrants for the following suspect:

Javontae Veney
Abbeville, LA 70510
D.O.B. 11/7/97
Count 1 – First Degree Murder
Count 2 – Attempted First Degree Murder

Both of these suspects are considered Armed and Extremely Dangerous. If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of these suspects, they are encouraged to contact the Abbeville Police Department at 893-2511. UPDATE: On November 3, 2020 at approximately 3:30 p.m. officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to the area of 411 Kibbe Street in reference to shots being fired in the area.

Upon the officer’s arrival, officers discovered a male victim laying on the ground in a nearby yard. The victim was identified by officers as a 16-year-old male juvenile from Abbeville. The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigators with the Abbeville Police Department began their investigation. It was learned that multiple people had been shot at. Based on information discovered, detectives were able to secure an arrest warrant for Ryheem Veney of Abbeville for the charges of First-Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder. Mr. Veney was located and arrested on the warrant.

The homicide investigation is active and ongoing, with more arrests expected in this case. No details regarding the investigation are being released at this time.


Abbeville Police are investigating a homicide on Kibbie Street this evening. Lt. Jonathan Touchet with the Abbeville Police Department says the department is not releasing information on the victim or suspect at this time. He also wouldn't say how the victim died, but did acknowledge that officers responded to a "shots fired" call and "you can make of that what you will."
