LAFAYETTE – The 14th annual Boudin Cook-off and Acadiana Bacon Fest celebrates the solid culinary heritage of the region with a family-friendly event open to all. The boudin and bacon teams hail from every part of Louisiana and some from as far away as Texas. You can expect to sample delicious food from Acadian Slice Pies, the Acadian Superette, Bayou Boy’s Poboys, Best Burgers Lafayette, Bosco’s Specialty Meats, Boudin by Jamison, Broddus Burgers, Cravin’ Boudin, Chop’s Specialty Meats, DezMeaux’s Country Boudin, Insane Sausages, Kartchner’s Specialty Meats, Kernis Louviere, Lazy Dayz Boudin, Prison City Boudain, T-Jim’s Grocery, T. Moise Farms, Vautrot’s Mini Mart,and Youngest Boudin. “It’s an unbelievable line-up of culinary masters,” declares Robert Carriker, the event coordinator since 2007. “It’s been a tough year and a half. Lots of businesses still face employment and supply issues, but we are thrilled to have such a remarkable group of cooks,” says Carriker.
In addition to tons of boudin, festival-goers can expect to eat Cajun roast pig street tacos, fried shrimp with bacon Alfredo sauce, Steen’s sausage stuffed jalapeno’s wrapped in bacon, boudin balls wrapped inbacon, bacon-infused baked beans, chocolate and bacon dipped pretzels, bacon mac-and-cheese, and more. Carriker proudly explains that there will even be a “healthy option with an amazing broccoli and bacon salad.” This one-of-a-kind food experience that Gourmet Magazine featured as one of the top tenfood festivals in the country is a must for the area's foodies. "We have been doing the boudin cookoff since 2007, and we just keep finding new ways to make it better and more welcoming,” says Carriker.
Every team will sample their special boudin and bacon creations while putting their skills in front of a panel of judges and before the public via the coveted “People’s Choice” awards. One champion will be crowned “Best Boudin in Louisiana.” The day’s full schedule includes the world’s only boudin ball eating contest and the world’s only boudin and bacon eating contest. Live music from The Babineaux Sisters, Major Handy, and the Blue Monday All-Stars plays throughout the day. Free ice cream sandwiches are handed out in the afternoon, and free games and fun jumps provide the young and the young-at-heart with amusement.
