The Buddy Walk® program was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October.
The Buddy Walk® has grown from 17 Walks to more than 400 Walks each year. Last year, more than 400,000 people from across the country participated in their local Buddy Walk®.
Last year all the Buddy Walks combined raised nearly $18 million to benefit local programs and services, as well as national public policy and public awareness initiatives.
