Colorado State released its outlook for the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

They call for a slightly above-average season with 17 named storms, 8 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes.

Between 1980 and 2010, an average year had 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes.

The reasons for the above-average outlook are the lack of El-Niño and warmer than normal sea surface temperatures.

El-Niño is important to tropical cyclone activity as it can lead to increased wind shear across the Atlantic Basin that rips potential tropical systems apart.

Regardless of how active this season is, remember it only takes one storm to make a season a bad one.
