Lafayette,LA -  Bryon Domingue has lived in rayne for about fifteen years. He says water discoloration has always been a problem, but in the last few years its seems to have gotten worse.

"I live right across the street from the water plant and its something that I've been dealing with every day. we haven't been cooking with it. We've just been buying our water. I mean, think about the people that couldn't afford to buy any water."

City engineer Brett Bayard explained that they started making improvements out of the water plant itself and cleaned a lot of the tanks so the water quality that's will be produced will be better than ever. "Every street has water lines has lime inbuilt up in them from sixty years of softening water with lime, and so what we're doing is flushing those lines to get all that lime out of the water."

Bayard told NEWS15 once these improvements are made, it will be a big step toward providing top-notch water for the citizens of Rayne,"Less likely are you going to get any type of hazy water its sometimes people might get and any kind of system like rayne's that treats it with lime to soften its water."

Suzette Forestier says she suffers from health issues and having to use the water never made her feel safe. To hear that they are improving the water system in the area. "I'm happy for rayne cause they are taking care of the problem. I feel safe cooking with the water, bathing in the water."

Bayard says that if there’s still discoloration in your water, let it run for a couple of minutes when you get home. The city plans to be finished with the project in the next three weeks. Mayor Charles Robichaux thanks the community for their patience. This is one of the final projects to complete the city's overall water system upgrades.
