What started as a relatively peaceful protest, where tens of thousands of people gathered to show their discontent with the current measures, suddenly erupted into violence.
Hundreds of black-clothed demonstrators appeared, wearing gas masks and toting molotov cocktails. Upon being attacked with the bombs, police fired back with tear gas canisters.
These protests were scheduled to coincide with a parliamentary vote on the latest austerity cuts, though the vote has been delayed. The cuts are still in negotiations, raising concerns that their passing in the near future could trigger further exacerbations of Greece's unrest.
