It's been a long awaited project for residents in the north eastern part of Saint Landry parish.
DOTD is finally replacing the bridge on highway 363.
Officials say the timber bridge is over 60 years old and needs to be replaced.
District Engineer Administrator Bill Fontenot says, there will be detours for people to take, since there won't be a temporary bridge.
"The bridge work and approach work is going to cost 1.6 million dollars and its something, that through our priority projects, has come up for replacement and qualifies. It will be a wider bridge and will be a concrete structure compared to a timber structure," Fontenot says.
The bridge will take about 8 months to complete.
