Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year Alex White allowed only three runs on four hits in seven innings, as second-seeded North Carolina defeated the seventh-seeded LSU baseball team, 8-4, on Sunday at Omaha's Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.
LSU (48-18-1), which lost for the second time in 27 games, fell into the loser's bracket where it will face sixth-seeded Rice in an elimination game at 1 p.m. CDT on Tuesday.
Starter Ryan Verdugo (9-4) suffered the loss for LSU, allowing six runs (four earned) on 10 hits (all singles) in 3 2/3 innings. Behind 7-2 after five innings, LSU used a total of six pitchers, getting experience on the Rosenblatt mound while keeping arms fresh for the next game.
