Lafayette Little Leaguers Lose in State Championship

By Chris Mycoskie

It’s the ultimate dream for any kid that puts on a Little League uniform: a trip to South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for a chance to take on the best young players in the world.

Lafayette made it to the Little League World Series in 2005, but they won't be back there in 2008. Instead, South Lake Charles will represent Louisiana in the Southwest Regional, where a berth to South Williamsport will be decided.

SLC beat Lafayette, 8-1, Wednesday night to force a winner-take-all championship final Thursday, and, again, South Lake Charles came out on top, this time by a count of 11-1. The game was called in the 4th inning due to the run-rule.

Lafayette head coach Gary Marks emphasized, though, that the score doesn't indicate what kind of team Lafayette had this year. He said this was a great group that did everything that was asked of them.
