The South Plaquemines Hurricanes blew past every opponent on their schedule since late September.

Their domination continued Saturday afternoon in the Class 1A championship game at the Louisiana Superdome. The Canes claimed the first state title in their short history, beating West St. John, 48-8.

It was just the second season for SPHS, which was formed in the aftermath of Katrina with the consolidation of Boothville-Venice, Buras, and Port Sulphur.
