Dave Peterson, who played linebacker on LSU's national championship team in 2003, died Tuesday morning after his motorcycle hit a sport utility vehicle.

The 26-year old Peterson had his helmet on, according to police, but it was at his side when officers arrived. He died on the scene due to injuries to his head and neck.

The accident happened around 9 am near Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge on Brady Street at North 38th Street.
