At 8-0 in the SEC and 29-4 overall, the eighth-ranked Lady Tigers are
well on their way to making a serious run to the Women's College World
Series.
"We've been playing lights out and we've been really clicking," catch Killian Roessner said.
After back-to-back-to-back series sweeps over conference foes Georgia,
Auburn and Mississippi State, the LSU softball team keeps its winning
streak alive at 17.
"The span at home has definitely helped us in the SEC," head coach Yvette Girouard said. "But the road is about to get much much tougher. "
Starting with this weekend as they travel to Gainesville for a three game series against the lady gators, who sit atop the SEC east and riding an 8 game winning streak of their own.
"This is a very good Florida team," Girouard said. "In fact i think it's the best its had since i have been at LSU."
"I think this weekend will test our limits and the competition we can play," second baseman Shannon Stein said.
The Lady Tigers expect the Gators to enter the weekend's match-up with a bit of a chip on their shoulders.
"They've been sent here two years and a row," Girouard said. "And now they are licking their chops."
"We beat them last year, we beat them in the tournament," Stein said. "We are a really confident team coming in."
The purple and gold anticipate a hostile environment, but welcome the challenge.
"You love playing at home, you always want to play in front of your fans," Roessner said. "But also going somewhere and beating someone means that much more."
Especially when the series victor will determines the SEC overall leader.
"It's a battle of the first place teams, yes it is, but we are not going to
throw everything in one series," Girouard said. "If we win it, that's awesome. If we lose, we've got to wake up and play our next games."
Including a tough Crimson Tide line-up next weekend in Tuscaloosa.
