Family-focused festival about accepting
LAFAYETE (KADN) — Lafayette's first annual Acadiana Pride festival is well underway, and going on throughout the weekend at Parc International. According to the festival's president, Lafayette had to overcome cultural barriers to be one of the first small towns in the south to have such an event.
"I think that Lafayette is setting the grounds for a new, or a fresher idea of what the south should be, and I think that we are pushing real people for the first time in the south," says Louis Toliver, Jr., Acadiana Pride president.
Family is the focus of the festival with everyone coming together for the cause, acceptance. The festival will be centered at Parc International featuring bands like Geno Delafose and Jamie Bergeron and the Cajuns, poetry readings, art displays, and even church services that will be held Sunday. The city of Scott will also be hosting some activities throughout the weekend.
