A 42-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly caused severe injuries to her elderly family member.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that it was contacted on Tuesday, Feb. 26 regarding the welfare of an 86-year-old woman. Doctors noted that the woman suffered from a fractured hip, abrasions to her head, and had skin tears on her hand.

Detectives learned that Jennifer D. Demary of Lake Charles contacted the woman shortly after 4:00 a.m. She asked the woman for a ride to a home on Orange Street.

Reports indicate that an altercation between the two women occurred after Demary demanded money. When the victim refused, officials say Demary grabbed the car keys and pushed the woman to the ground, which caused her injuries.

Demary was arrested and charged with Second-Degree Battery and Cruelty to the Infirmed. She was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Her bond was set at $65,000.
