BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — If one person gets his way there will be new life in the Times-Picayune.

According to reports Saints and Hornets owner Tom Benson is looking into buying the Times-Picayune. The newspaper recently announced they were laying off staff and cutting down to three days a week.

Officials at the paper simply say “it's not for sale.” Now, Louisiana Senator David Vitter says he's urging the Times-Picayune administration to allow the sale.

The Advocate here in Baton Rouge announced earlier this week they're expanding their presence in New Orleans because of the move by the Times-Picayune.
