May is national stroke month, bringing awareness to the importance of early and accurate diagnosis for the leading cause of death in the United States.  One of the most important tools to diagnose a stroke is an MRI, and now there is a pacemaker that will allow patients to safely receive MRI scans called Medtronic SureScan Pacing Systems.

"The real issue with stroke is the immediate awareness of the symptoms, and the ability to diagnose it accurately, quickly because time is of the essence in a stroke," says Dr. Kevin Courville, President of The Heart and Cardiovascular Associates of Acadiana.

Some warning signs of stroke tend to be enability to move an arm, leg, or droop in face, as well as the enability to speak.  It's important to know these signs for a family member as well to recognize symptoms quickly, and get an MRI as soon as possible to steer away from long term affects, which can be severe.  If you would like to learn more about the Medtronic pacing system you can go to www.jointhepacemakers.com.
