Vehicular Homicide: DWI driver arrested for fatal crash on I-10

A 21-year-old man was arrested yesterday for allegedly causing a crash that resulted in the death of a woman.

The Lafayette Police Department arrested Joey Fontenot of Lafayette for OWI and Vehicular Homicide. Fontenot is accused of causing a crash on Nov. 3, 2012. The incident happened shortly before 3:00 a.m. on I-10.

Investigators believe Fontenot stopped on I-10, causing a vehicle being driven by Kelly Theriot to crash into the back of his truck. Theriot was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she later died as a result of her injuries.

An investigation was launched to determine the cause of the crash. A toxicology report was submitted and as a result a warrant was issued for his arrest on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Fontenot was additionally cited for No Insurance and Impeding the Flow of Traffic.
