Capable of autonomous navigation; increase ease of deployment and minimize threats to military personnel

UL and Swiftships Shipbuilders are working together to develop a military boat capable of autonomous navigation.  They are modifying the Anaconda, which is a 35-foot boat that's designed primarily for military use.  The boat will be able to increase ease of deployment and minimize threats to military personnel, with the help of our community's university.

"One thing it does is people see this and particularly young people might see this and say hey that might be interesting, and hopefully promote science interest in science and engineering which is a good thing," says Joshua Vaughan, assistant professor mechanical engineering at UL.

Swiftships enlisted the university's help to enhance the Anaconda becuase of it's experience in control systems, sensors and robotics.
