DEQUINCY, LA — A city in Louisiana is making twerking illegal?
Nope. You’ve been fooled.
A fake story is circulating the Internet regarding the town of DeQuincy. It claims the Mayor made the dance illegal because it is a “defiant act against Jesus and his teachings.” It claims that those caught breaking the law would be sentenced to 30 days in jail.
The report seems legit, albeit ridiculous. It even includes a legitimate news source, CNN. But nonetheless, it’s a hoax, and Mayor Lawrence Henagan really did say, “it’s a bunch of hogwash.”
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time people have been fooled about a false report making big claims about the small town. In fact, this is the third one this year. The earlier attempts claim that the town banned Koreans from living there, and another says students would be issued guns in schools.
Why are they picking on DeQuincy?
Who knows. But perhaps it was just a random town selected for its minimal population of 4,000. Or perhaps it’s a targeted effort on the part of the person composing the fake stories.
For those who missed out on the prank and are only now reading about, you might be wondering how someone could fall for the fake story. When you consider the recent passing of other laws such as the Saggy Pants ordinance, it may not seem so outlandish.
And for those of you who are thoroughly confused because you have no idea what “twerking” means, we highly suggest going to YouTube and spending a little time getting to know this trend. However, we warn you, it’s going to be an eyeful.
