Louisiana State Police report that two men from Kaplan, LA, including a wanted probation violator with a violent criminal past, are in custody following a police chase in Vermilion Parish.

LSP troopers stopped a car for speeding on Monday, Feb. 17, just before 6:00 p.m. on LA Highway 92 near Noah Road.

The driver pulled over and gave officers false identification. However, the trooper recognized the driver as Robert Sinegal, 32, of Kaplan, LA, who was wanted by Louisiana Probation and Parole.

Before officers could take him into custody, Sinegal ran back to his car and sped away.

Police pursued Sinegal on several highways into Kaplan, where Sinegal and his passenger, Lawrence Julien, 54, abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot.

The two suspects entered a residence in the 800 block of Lemaire Street.

Kaplan Police, Vermillion Parish Sheriff’s deputies, and State Police SWAT assisted in surrounding the house, and Julien surrendered shortly after.

Sinegal was later found under a house and taken into custody.

Both men were booked into the Verimillion Parish Jail.

Julien was charged with resisting arrest, interfering with the duties of a State Trooper and criminal conspiracy.

Sinegal was booked for a probation violation warrant, speeding 95 in a 55, resisting arrest, flight from an officer, driving with a suspended license, littering, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and simple criminal damage to property.
