Traffic Stops yield over 1,000 lbs. of illegal drugs, multiple arrests

During the past few weeks Louisiana State Troopers in Troop A and Troop I made several traffic stops which resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana, several pounds of cocaine, nearly a kilo of MDMA, eight ounces of codeine and two handguns.

The first traffic stop happened just before 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 when a Trooper stopped a car on I-10 eastbound west of LA Hwy 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation.

The driver of the Lexus, Christopher Lee-Sinc Jackson, 31, of Beaumont, TX, gave Troopers permission to search the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle Troopers discovered approximately 11 pounds of cocaine, two handguns and $10,000 cash hidden in the vehicle.

Jackson was arrested for Improper lane usage, Possession with intent to distribute Schedule II Narcotics, and Illegal carrying of weapons. Jackson was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

The second traffic stop occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014 when a Trooper stopped a car on I-10 eastbound west of LA Hwy 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation.

A State Police K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, and upon searching the car, officers discovered over 100 pounds of marijuana, approximately 1.1 kilos (11,000 dosage units) of MDMA (Ecstasy) and approximately eight ounces of Codeine syrup.

The driver, Jamorrius R. Gibson, 23, of Hammond, was placed under arrest for LRS Improper lane usage, Turning movements and required signals, Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics, Possession with intent to distribute Schedule V Narcotics, and Driving under suspension. Gibson was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

The third traffic stop in Troop A occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014 when a Trooper stopped a car on I-10 eastbound west of LA Hwy 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation.

The driver of the Mercedes Martin Martinez, 34, of La Marque, TX, gave Troopers permission to search his vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle Troopers discovered approximately 244 pounds of marijuana. Martinez was arrested for Improper lane usage, and Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics, and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

Shortly before 7:15 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014 Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I stopped a vehicle on I-10 eastbound west of Henderson in St. Martin Parish for a traffic violation.

Upon searching the vehicle Troopers discovered over 586 pounds of marijuana packaged in bundles. The driver of the Nissan Juan Rangle, 25, of Brownsville, TX, was arrested for Improper lane usage, No driver’s license, and Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics. Rangle was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail.
