Tips from the community land accused drug dealer behind bars

 Tips from concerned citizens in an Opelousas neighborhood helped aid police in the arrest of a local drug dealer.

The Opelousas Police Department arrested Shaquille Carriere, 18, for Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I Drugs (Ecstasy), Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I Drugs (Marijuana), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Illegal Possession of a Firearm in the presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances.

After Opelousas Police received the tips of continuous activity near the residence of Carriere, officers responded to the residence for further investigation. After speaking to Carriere and his mother, Police located drugs and a handgun in the bedroom of the residence belonging to Shaquille Carriere.

The incident is still under investigation at this time in which further arrests are pending.

Carriere is currently being held in the Opelousas Police Department Jail on a $69,000 bond.
