A 35-year-old man was arrested for his fifth DWI last night. Officials say all of his prior arrests were acquired within the past 10 years.

The Thibodaux Police Department reports that Johnathan Smith was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 4 at around 11:30 p.m.

We’re told an officer noticed Smith’s vehicle had a burnt headlight and conducted a traffic stop. The officer says Smith admitted to the officer that he had been drinking since around 5:00 p.m. that afternoon.

The officer conducted a field sobriety test and says Smith failed. They say Smith refused to blow into the Intoxilyzer. Under the No Refusal law officers issued a warrant to secure a sample of his blood for analysis.

Smith was charged with DWI (fifth offence), Driving Under Suspension, and a Burnt Headlight. He was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, where he is currently being held.

Officials with the Thibodaux Police Department credit the arrest to the utilization of the DDACTS system, which is a data driven approach to law enforcement. Click here to read more about that program and how they have utilized it regarding DWI arrests.
