The suspect in an officer involved shooting is now recovering in a local hospital.  Around 1:20 this afternoon Lafayette police responded to the 1100 block of West Gilman Street where a postal worker claimed he was shot at in his mail truck.  When officers arrived they approached the suspect who was armed with a pistol, and through that confrontation an officer shot the suspect.  Lafayette police as well as the FBI are investigating.

Any time that there's an incident involving a federal employee, such as what occured today, we always contact the FBI.  They have since arrived on scene and they're handling that part of the investigation," says Corporal Paul Mouton, Lafayette police.

The postal worker's vehicle was struck, but the worker was not injured.  Police are still trying to figure out why this happened.
