LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA — Throughout the year, the Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana's Children proudly recognizes deserving individuals who work to positively impact in the lives of Louisiana’s youth. From these award recipients, one is chosen at random to receive the Grand Prize – a four-day cruise for two compliments of Carnival Cruise Lines.
The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children is proud to announce that Shana Zanyk of Lafayette Parish has been selected as the Grand Prize Winner. Shana is a registered nurse in the burn unit at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette. For the past seven years, Shana has used her vacation time to volunteer at Camp Bon Coeur, a camp for children with congenital heart defects. Serving as Head Nurse at the camp, Shana compassionately cares for children as they participate in activities such as swimming, horseback riding, archery and canoeing.
Supriya Jindal said, “It was a joy to discover that the Grand Prize would be going to someone as humble and deserving as Shana. I would like to thank Shana for her dedication to Louisiana’s children, specifically those with heart defects. Her exceptional care and selfless devotion for the children at Camp Bon Coeur, along with the many lives she touches as a nurse at Lourdes, makes Shana well-deserving of this award.”
As head nurse and board member, Shana takes the time to become personally acquainted with each child's special needs and, thus, often forms bonds with the children and their families. As campers arrive, she meets with each family to review medication and specific needs of each child. Always making the children her priority, she also ensures the infirmary is organized and that the proper medications are readily available. Creating games for the children to play, Shana has made the infirmary a place that campers enjoy to be in while they are being cared for.
