3 Shootings In 3 Days -- Are They Connected?

By Hilarie Courtney

Quincy Terrell Todd, 18, was shot to death Friday night at Acadian Place Apartments on South Flannery. The trigger man is still at large.

Then on Saturday night East Baton Rouge deputies were called to the 13900 block of Old Hammond Hwy. They say a 19-year-old white female was shot in the chest after she got into an argument with three young black men. Deputies say the suspects, who were last seen wearing long white t-shirts and dark colored pants, fired rounds from several handguns. Luckily the victim was not seriously injured.

And Sunday there was a second deadly shooting in the same area.

Keith Bates with East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Department said "We're treating them as separate cases, but obviously we're exploring whether or not they're related."

Detectives said two 15-year-olds were shot multiple times in the 14000 block of Azalea Park Dr. killing one of the teens and the other is clinging to life in a local hospital.

Deputies have arrested 26-year-old Joshua Blake Duke. He's charged with first degree murder. They're still trying to locate two other men.

The victims are black but authorities say the don't believe this was racially motivated.

"I don't think there's anything to do with race other than the suspects and the victims are different races" said Bates.

One woman who lives nearby and heard the gun shots asked us not to reveal her identity and to distort her voice because she's scared.

"It makes me feel unsafe and I'm scared something has got to be done about it," said a neighbor.

And that's exactly what deputies plan to do, more patrols in the area.
