Lady Tigers #2 Seed in NCAA Tournament

By Chris Mycoskie

The NCAA men's tournament lacks Louisiana influence. No pelican state schools made it in and no games will be played on Louisiana soil.

But on the women's side, it's a completely different story. LSU is a national championship contender and will host early round games at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Plus, Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games are scheduled for New Orleans Arena.

The brackets were revealed Monday night. LSU is the 2nd seed in the New Orleans regional. The Lady Tigers will play #15 Jackson State at the PMAC Saturday night at 9:30.

If the LSU women survive, they'll play the winner of the seven o'clock game between DePaul and Marist.

LSU players, coaches and die-hard fans gathered at the Lawton Room outside Tiger Stadium for Monday's selection show.

Some experts thought the Lady Tigers deserved a number one seed. No one on the team was expressing any disappointment with the draw, though.

North Carolina grabbed the top spot in the New Orleans regional, but the home court advantage should more than make up for LSU’s number two seed. The Lady Tigers can reach a fifth straight final four by winning four in-state games.
