Naked man on i-49 leads to gunfire and tasing
LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) — State Police are investigating a bizarre incident that took place yesterday afternoon. Twenty-two year old Byron Simon was traveling north on i-49 when he hit a truck in front of him from behind. When the two cars pulled over, Simon got out of his car, walked up to the person in the truck, and struck him in the face. The person drove away to a safe location and called the police. When a St. Landry Parish Deputy got to the scene Simon started running toward the deputy, naked! He got into the deputy's car and they started fighting. That's when state trooper Travis Gallow got there. We're told he shot his gun once, but didn't hit anyone. He then fired his taser and they were finally able to get the guy under control.
"It is extremely bizarre. It is something that fortunately we do not see everyday, but as law enforcement officers when you do see something that outside of the ordinary we start having those red flags that go up," says Trooper Stephen Hammons, State Police Troop I.
Simon has been charged with DWI First Offense, Driving with Suspended License, No Insurance, Careless Operation, Attempt to Disarm a Peace Officer, Simple Battery, Obscenity, Simple Burglary of an Emergency Vehicle, Battery on a Police Officer, and four counts of Resisting a Police Officer.
