St. Landry Parish deputies arrest Romanian man for money laundering

According to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Office, Dorin Munteanu of Romania was arrested for money laundering, traffic violations, and using fraudulent documents.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Munteanu’s vehicle on Highway 190, west of St. Landry Parish. During the stop, police found about $50,000 in US money and several fake identification cards.

Muteanu allegedly laundered U.S. currency at local Wal-Marts and Money Gram locations by using fake ID’s from New Jersey and South Carolina. The money was being shipped to Romania.

Homeland Security seized all U.S. currency, and Munteanu was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail. He currently has a bond of $104,000.
