Lafayette was nominated along with several other cities.
The winner will be chosen by votes tallied on the Southern Living's website.
Lafayette is one of the top right now but Louisville, Kentucky is nipping at the heels and so is New Orleans!
It was just recently Lafayette won the Rand McNally's Best Food Award for the Best of the Road competition.
"If we get the honor, it really is mark in the sand that we always know, we that live here, know that we have the best food in the whole country. But everybody else will have a chance to know that. And just the dollars that visitors could bring into our community. T tell all their friends and relatives, You know where I went? I went to the number one food city in the country. That really is our mark," exclaimed Gerald Breaux, Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission.
